Not only is Europe the birthplace and home of many of the world’s most prestigious automotive manufacturers, but it’s also home to some seriously high-octane adventures on the road.

If you’re looking for racing speeds, hairpin bends, and spectacular scenery while you drive, then Europe certainly offers some of the best experiences available.

Ferraris on The Furka Pass

Set down your skis and slide behind the wheel of a supercar for an exhilarating road trip that takes you through the magnificent Swiss Alps. With winding roads, views of rocks, mountains, and lakes around every corner, driving The Furka Pass is an empowering decision. The pass spans 20 miles northeast from Gletsch to Andermatt along the German-Italian language barrier and has earned its claim to fame due to a prominent scene in the James Bond Goldfinger movie.

Choose from a range of high-performance luxury vehicles to take on the Pass. A Ferrari 488 Spider perhaps? Or maybe a McLaren 765LT is more your thing? Either way, driving Route 19 in the mountains, you can marvel at stunning views of glaciers, snowy mountaintops, and scenic forested areas. The dramatic road rises 2,429 meters above sea level, and if you’re lucky, you might even get the chance to drive alongside the Alpine train that travels the Furka Pass for a quintessentially Swiss memory.

If you’re up for an extended adventure, take a short detour towards the Rhone Glacier on the Wallis side of the pass to view the ice grotto. You can walk the glacier and get up close to the ice grotto, which has been annually carved anew since 1870 – 2300m above sea level!

Street tracks in South Barcelona

The Montjuïc circuit, Barcelona is a crazy former Formula 1 street circuit that hosted four Spanish Grands Prix in the late 60s and early 70s. With a heady mix of fast sweeping corners, long straights, and slow hairpins, it is still regarded as one of F1’s greatest, and hardest, ever tracks. Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, and John Surtees - some of F1’s greatest ever drivers – all raced around Montjuïc at insane speeds.

Various safety concerns contributed to the closure of the official track, with the final F1 race hosted in 1975. But, that now means you have the pleasure of driving the course yourself, in the comfort of your own car, while imagining what it must’ve been like to throw an F1 car around it. The abundance of Armco barriers en route is enough to punish even the smallest of errors and is actually one of the main reasons the circuit was officially taken off the F1 circuit in the first place. Nevertheless, skilled motorists can glide themselves through the reconstruction of the original 3,790-meter route through the Montjuïc mountain, taking you through beautiful parkland, with stunning views of Barcelona all around. You will also pass iconic landmarks along the way, like the former Olympic stadium.

Whatever speed you drive at, and whatever machine you choose to drive it in, just imagine those crowds roaring at either side of the road as you soar towards the finish line.

A Highland Off-Road Fling

The wild landscapes of Scotland’s Highlands and islands offer the ultimate escape – one of the last corners of Europe where you can discover genuine solitude. Driving through the region’s magnificent landscapes is still one of its biggest draws, with views to take your breath away at almost every turn.

But, once you’re satisfied with your performance on the roads, you can then take your Highland jaunt off-road for the ultimate 4x4 driving experience. Board your Land Rover (classic or contemporary model depending on your preference) to test some of Perthshire’s most spectacular rugged off-road terrain. Spot local wildlife along the way, as well as some of the most stunning scenery you can imagine. Forge your way along hillside tracks, through mountain burns, and up slippery slopes with an experienced instructor by your side all the way.

Expect a warm Scottish welcome at the finish line, with a champagne (or whisky) toast upon completion to celebrate the success of your quest.
